‘Set for Success’ is open to youth aged 15 to 25 years in the Redcliffe (Moreton Bay) region of QLD. 

This program combines practical training leading to a Certificate III in Hospitality, valuable real-world experience with a hospitality industry employer, and dedicated mentoring and workplace support to set you up for success

This course will be delivered in person and must be completed within 12 months.

Course fees

This course is subsidised by the QLD Government through the Certificate III Guarantee for eligible students. 

If you finished school (Year 12) in 2024 this course is Fee-Free. 

For all other eligible participants course fees are:

  • $30 concessional, or
  • $75 non-concessional 

Am I eligible?

To qualify for the Certificate III Guarantee, you must be:

  • be a Queensland resident
  • be aged 15 years or over, and no longer at school
  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • not hold, or be enrolled in, a certificate III level or higher qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training).

Course Plan

Hospitality fundamentals

Hospitality Fundamentals aims to equip you with the skills necessary to deliver exceptional customer service whilst ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for all.

You will not only develop the ability to understand and address customer needs, handle complaints, and manage difficult situations with a positive approach while applying cultural sensitivity, you will also dive into and discover principles food safety, hygiene practices, hazard identification, risk management strategies, and workplace health and safety procedures to minimise the risk of food-borne illnesses or workplace accidents.

Responsible service

Responsible services covers the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol and provide the service of gambling within a hospitality establishment.

Responsible service of alcohol practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This unit therefore applies to any workplace where alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including all types of hospitality venues, packaged liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries.

Responsible gambling services must be provided wherever gambling activities are undertaken. In the hospitality industry, the gambling environment is usually referred to as the gaming area and is provided in a range of venues, such as hotels, motels, clubs, pubs and casinos. This covers the major forms of gambling are wagering (racing and sport) and gaming (gaming machines, table games, Keno and lotteries). Both forms of gambling are relevant to the hospitality industry.

Non-alcoholic beverage services

Non-alcoholic beverage services is designed to equip you with the necessary skills to efficiently manage a café or restaurant style bar and deliver exceptional customer service. The subject covers all aspects of setup and organisation of the bar, taking drink orders, and employing upselling, cross-selling, and suggestive selling techniques to enhance revenue opportunities and will learn the art of creating a variety of non-alcoholic beverages. Additionally, the subject covers efficient closing procedures. Through practical exercises and real-world scenarios, you will gain the hands-on experience needed to excel in beverage services.

Coach others

Coach others focusses on the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide on-the-job coaching to colleagues. It requires the ability to explain and demonstrate specific skills, knowledge and procedures and monitor the progress of colleagues until they are able to operate independently of the coach.

Source and present information

Learn how to conduct basic research on current and emerging information for the hospitality industry and share or present this information to your work team to enhance the quality of work performance.

Work effectively in hospitality

In this subject you will develop the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a hospitality environment and provide service to customers during service periods. Build your capability to integrate a range of individual technical skills while dealing with numerous sales, service or operational tasks simultaneously to meet the needs of multiple and diverse customers. A service period incorporates preparation, service and end of service tasks.
